Defense Secretary Gates approves creation of U.S. Cyber Command

Approval has been given for the creation of Cybercom, the organization to be created to oversee the protection of military networks against cyber threats. The director of the NSA, Lt. General Keith Alexander, will be recommended by Gates as the person to head Cybercom.

Cybercom is to begin operation by October 2009 with full operation scheduled for October , 2010.

UK police chiefs mull regional cybercrime squad plan

Aside from the UK government coming out with a cyber-security strategy, senior police chiefs have been discussing the establishment regional e-crime squads.

Reflecting concern that existing cyber efforts are not enough, the Association of Police Officers is thinking of establishing regional cyber crime police along the lines of currently existing teams working to fight anti-terrorism.

TJX reaches settlement with multiple states related to data theft a few years ago

In a data breach that began in July 2005 and detected in December 2006, in which at least 45.7 million credit and debit cards were exposed to possible fraud, TJX has settled in court with various states to the tune of $9.75 million.

Michigan man accused in massive spam e-mail caper pleads guilty to Chinese stock fraud

Known as one of the world’s most notorious spammers, Alan Ralsky pleaded guilty to defrauding people through the use of an elaborate spam e-mail system to inflate prices of Chinese stocks on US exchanges. Ralsky made $3 million through this scam in 2005.
