Google’s Anti-Malvertising.com Fights Off Bad Ads
2% of malicious web sites were distributing malware through advertising in 2008, according to a Google security engineer. Another security firm stated that for Q1 in 2007, about 80% of malicious code online came through online ads.
To help in this regard Google’s custom search engine, anti-malvertising.com was launched to provide publishers with background information about advertisers.

China Orders Google to Suspend Foreign Site Searches
Regarding China’s ongoing attempt to protect its citizens from pornography, China has ordered Google to suspend its foreign web site search service due to claims that Google’s filtering of pornography is too weak.
Comment: China is just one of the countries that have been struggling with how to, and what data should be filtered. Of interest with China is to what depth their level of filtering will reach.

Beijing to dispatch net police
In efforts to filter, or protect its citizens from harmful aspects of the Internet, China will recruit 10,000 volunteers over the next year to supplement technology used to control online information.

Regulators and law don’t protect UK net neutrality
UK-based ISPs are able to block, or traffic-shape what ever it desires as long as its actions are explained in its fair use policies or statements of terms and conditions.
Regarding costs associate with maintaining a network to support high bandwidth requirements, last week BT asked high-bandwidth content providers to pay a fee. Specifically BT is targeting operators of web video services. BT also feels the BBC and Google should pay due to the popularity of their iPlayer and YouTube services.

UK gov admits gamble on massive net snoop plan
In its initiative to have UK-based ISPs store details of every Internet communication instead of having the government story the data in a central government database, the UK government was to help ISPs acquire the appropriate infrastructure to make this work though a £2bn program.
Recently learned, the application to be used by the ISPs has yet to be developed.
